CROSSFIT ONTARIO SECTIONAL RESULTS
Although this is actually a blog, I don't do a whole lot of "blogging". Well, here we go...
This weekend was an amazing success for our two athletes John Schwenker (20) and Kevin Cooper (19-7/8). As you can see from the results posted above, they did very well for their first foray into CrossFit competition. John, because of his strong background in rowing dominated the 1st event (3000m row) by finishing 18th out of 93 men - Kevin followed in 26th.
The second event was a quick overhead squat and burpee couplet, both finishing with respectable times. The third workout of the first day proved that it truly takes dedication and training to perform well in all 3 events. They both finished again strong pulling deadlifts off the ground, pulling up on the bar and dipping away on the rings. The first day was fantastic and we chatted non-stop on the drive home...then, day 2.
This year has graced me with many moments of great pride - ummm, anyone remember Winterlift? - well, today was thrice that! The final event was a "chipper" consisting of 50 doubleunders, 40 boxjumps, 30 wall ball shot (deleted due to technical issues) 20 Knees to elbows, 10 snatch with 135 pounds, 5 muscle-ups and a 100m run with 2 45 pound gerry cans...and they had to do it twice! They both did incredibly, but the moment which I will always remember is the two of them pulling their snatches side by side, one through ten reps without missing a beat. I screamed and yelled cues to them, words of encouragement and continually received nods of acknowledgement, and then BOOM, they'd snatch again and again. I honestly held back tears seeing them perform so incredibly ...but, that would have been inappropriate - hahaha. Anyway, they both finished 1 full round and then starting the second. Kevin ended at 3 finished snatches and John was working on his K2E in the second round - and at the time, had completed the most reps overall.
I was also able to judge a friend during the final workout on the second day who had never snatched anything heavier than 65 pounds. She finished the workout by completing 6 reps of 85 pound snatches - the quickest student I've ever taught! Consequently, she "snatched" 15th place, qualifying her for the Regionals in Calgary. Stop in anytime Julie for some lifting. We'll get that PR up to 95 and up for the next event!
I'd like to invite any of the affiliates or athletes that participated to stop in also - anytime! Shoot me an email, call, txt, whatever. Please come on by and pull some plates off the platforms with us, we love visitors and barely ever bite... that's all for now.

Thank you so much Mark, Donna Lee and Kim for coming and helping Kevin and I through those four events. Between you guys, Steph, my dad and Kevin's mom we had the best fans out there! Kevin and I look forward to making you even more proud of us next year by finishing top 15!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have missed it! Your drive and dedication and endurance and strength and skills came through in spades!!!! You did awesome!!
ReplyDeleteIt was so exciting to watch you bang through those snatches in the last WOD.
And watching Julie PR those snatches over and over after 15 seconds of Mark's coaching was very emotional indeed. What a weekend!!!
